I’m so far behind in blogging about the adventures that I’ve taken….but hey, better late than never. This was a visit back in 2022.
About Stone Mountain…..yes, I’m very much aware about the history of it. But like I always say “they are gonna see my Black face” in places such as this. I will not be moved by fear! You can learn more about the history by clicking the link. The Long history of Stone Mountain
Pictures are in a slide show format
Initially I was gonna head to Chewacla State Park (my blog post from a previous visit) but I decided to try and climb up Stone Mountain. I was up at 4:15 a.m and on the road by 5 a.m. I even saw some snow along the way! It took about 5 hrs to reach my destination.
I paid $20 for a parking pass but there are others things included in the pass. Parking Pass. I first stopped to learn more about the park before heading out to climb up the mountain.
As I was going through my pictures, I noticed I didn’t take many pictures climbing up. Mainly due to it being my first time there and wanting to be careful; which one should always be anyway. And there was ice on the rocks. The hike is about 2 miles (round trip) but it’s steep. I did capture some video which I will post at the end of this blog.
I didn’t go to the edges at the top of the mountain like some folks. I like to “live on the edge” sometimes but I also like living
After taking it all in, I hiked back down and made my way over to the mill and quarry.
After my visit to the mill and quarry, I made my way back over to the main area. You don’t realize how huge it is nor the height of the mountain until you’re close up on it. Crazy to think I was up there on top of it.
There was more that I would have loved to see but I was short on time considering it was a day trip. I think I ended up arriving home around 10 pm. I’ll be planning another visit when the weather is a bit warmer, but not when it’s too hot. Summers here in the South can be brutal.
If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.
